Photographers interested in guided landscape & wildlife photography during summer or winter will find plenty to photograph in the area between Delta Junction and Paxson along the Richardson Highway. Mountains like Mount Hayes, Mount Moffit, and Mount Deborah are some of the most striking in Alaska, yet relatively obscure and underexposed, just waiting for someone to take the first iconic shot from a new location. Along with the mountains of the eastern Alaska Range, there are many scenic lakes, rivers, mountain creeks, glaciers, ice caves, and more beautiful landscapes to photograph. Moose & caribou are typically easy to locate year-round, but September and October are the best months to visit if you want to capture males with full-grown antlers. Other animals like fox, lynx, coyotes, bison, coyotes, wolves, and bald eagles can sometimes be seen with a little luck or in higher numbers at certain times of year. Dall sheep can almost always be found, but only if you hike up a mountain where they typically roam or else carefully scan the mountains from long distance with binoculars. Bears are rarely seen, but you might find their tracks between April and November.

If you’re only interested in one day of guided photography, I suggest taking a look at my standard guided hiking tour routes and see if any of those interest you — they are perfect if you enjoy adventure photography or epic vistas, or if you want to explore a glacier or ice cave. If you aren’t particularly interested in hiking, or if you have other photography subjects in mind such as wildlife or mountain reflection shots, I can plan an alternate photography outing for the same half-day and full-day rates based on your interests, or provide a discounted quote for multiple days of guiding. If you’re booking during aurora season (late August through mid-April), I offer discounts when you combine guided landscape & wildlife photography with guided aurora photography — check out my multi-night Aurora & Adventure Packages.

All of my tours are private so I am able to tailor our guided outings around your schedule and your interests. I’m ready to catch a 3 a.m. sunrise in mid-summer if you are! I can also help arrange logistics for flightseeing and other photography excursions requiring additional travel or planning. I recommend contacting me before you book your trip if you haven’t spent time in Alaska before so I can help you pick the best time to visit and describe the conditions & available subjects to expect. Just fill out the form below or give me a call to discuss.
